MLK Volunteer Festival 2025: Take Action to Support Our Beloved Community
Monday, January 20, 2025
Dr. King addressing 15,000 people at Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum, 1964
“We are caught in an inescapable network of mutuality, tied in a single garment of destiny. Whatever affects one directly, affects all indirectly.”

-Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.
At the Coliseum in 1964, Dr. King passionately and persuasively addressed 15,000 Angelenos on the issues of race relations and human dignity.
In 1994, Congress passed the King Holiday and Service Act, which transformed Martin Luther King Jr. Day into a national day dedicated to volunteer service in honor of Dr. King's legacy.
In 2025, L.A. Works will continue our long tradition of honoring Dr. King’s legacy by organizing the MLK 2025 Volunteer Festival: Take Action to Support our Beloved Community. This event for thousands of volunteers at the Los Angeles Coliseum will feature hands-on activities for participants to address needs within the areas of:
-
Homelessness,
-
Education Equity,
-
Food Insecurity, and
-
Economic Opportunity.

Join L.A. Works in honoring Dr. King on his birthday along with thousands of Angelenos at the Coliseum who are taking action to support our Beloved Community!

WANT TO VOLUNTEER TO HELP PLAN MLK DAY?
Volunteer as a part of the MLK Day of Service planning team (we work on the event year-round!) to make 2025's event even more special for the LA community. We are always looking for enthusiastic volunteers who would like to contribute their skills and expertise (or learn a new skill). Reach out to Metzti to chat about how you'd like to get involved.
Volunteering is free...but...
As a nonprofit organization, our mission is to mobilize volunteers to help uplift the Los Angeles community.
We want to encourage as many individuals as possible to get involved, so we don't charge participants -- and we are especially grateful for the time and expertise that volunteers donate when they decide to serve.
Generous sponsors and in-kind donors help to partially underwrite the costs for volunteer events like MLK Day of Service, but do not cover all the expenses.
As a nonprofit organization, we have paid staff that organize and coordinate the events, there are fixed costs like rent and insurance, there are site fees and rentals, and we have durable and non-durable project supplies for each event.
So, for MLK Day, we're making an appeal to those who are coming out to serve as well as those who may not be able to join us: would you please help us cover the costs for this event!?!
